How to make money with YouTube

How to make money with YouTube

As a starting YouTuber you might wonder how you’re going to be able to make money with your channel and how long this will take. You don’t actually have to wait until you have a 1000 subscribers, so let’s talk about making money with your YouTube channel.

You may be aware that in order for you to be able to place ads on your videos you will need 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of view time. This might seem far away still, but it’s not the only way to make money on your channel and it’s best to set up your channel right from the beginning so that you can start making money soon.

Once you reach that point where you can monetise your channel it’s still not going to make you a lot of money. You need a whole lot of views in order for you to make some substantial cash from the ads. So that will only be part of the income your channel can bring in.

Another part is affiliate marketing, which is where you refer somebody to a website where they order something and you get a commission from the sale. There are a lot of websites that let you do this, but the biggest is probably Amazon. You can sign up for their affiliate program for free and you can create links to products that they sell on Amazon. The great thing about this program is that if somebody uses your link and decides not to buy the product but within 24 hours buy something else on Amazon you still get a commission from that product. So this can sometimes really add up.

Whatever niche you’re in there are probably products that you use or people interested in that niche would want to buy. Try and do it for products that you use yourself, things you know other people will be happy with to use. They will most likely buy it because of your advice and you don’t want to hurt your reputation.

Besides Amazon there are also products that have their own affiliate program and these can sometimes pay out even higher commissions, so make sure to check for that. On one of my channels I had a product that out of nowhere started selling once my audience started using my link and very quickly it made me a couple of thousand dollars when all I did was put the link in my description.

When you are starting to create a fan base people might enjoy having some merchandise with your logo on it or your channel name. A great way to be able to sell merchandise is Teespring. Teespring is a print on demand company. You upload your design and set up a store, when you send people to the store and they order something, Teespring takes care of everything and you get a percentage of the sale. Also when you get to 10.000 subscribers on YouTube you can integrate your shop with your YouTube channel and sell your merchandise straight from your channel.

If you have a channel where you provide a service or in some way teach people something you might offer people a more hands on service or personal session with you. In order to do this you can set up a website and direct people there from your channel. Your channel can function as an introduction to you and your services and send people to your business where you’d be able to make more money than from just selling adds on your channel.

If you don’t have a business or are not able to do one on one sessions perhaps you can set up a course or write a book. You can set up a course that you can sell on Udemy or write an ebook that you can sell to your viewers.

There are many different ways for you to make money with your channel and of course for all of these methods still counts, the more viewers you have the bigger the potential income will be. So in the next blog we’ll talk about how to optimise your channel so you can give the best first impression and get people to subscribe and increase your views.
